Laura Ramsey and her GROOVETrane
Laura has studied saxophone, clarinet, piano, and songwriting for 23 years and has 15 years of professional performance and teaching experience. A 17 year study of yoga asana and philosophy has ben a major force in all of her music and fuels Groove Trane and the Meditative Groove. Without the mental and physical training she has learned from teachers such as Lauren Toolin, Rodney Yee, Anjili Russell, and last but most importantly her yoga teacher parents Warren and Ann Ramsey, owners of Yoga Home in Spencer, MA it is unlikely her approach to practice, performance, and teaching would be what it is constantly becoming. Her biggest influences are Sonny Rollins who she has met and brushed shoulders with several times, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Imogen Heap, Stan Getz, Chick Corea, and John Zorn.
At Berklee College of Music(2003-2007) she studied saxophone performance with George Garzone of The Fringe, Fred Lipsius of Blood, Sweat, & Tears, top Billboard recording artist for smooth jazz Walter Beasley, John Aldrich, Dino Govoni, Ken Sawyer, Scott Graves, and Jeff Harrington.
Laura is the leader, founder, saxophonist, synth soundscape builder, and vocalist of the jazz combo Groove Trane, which has been awarded Massachusetts Cultural Council grant funding for free public performance and education every year since 2011. In 2017 she unveiled a songwriting workshop Express Yourself! Songwriting to great success and positive feedback, focused on helping those with few resources by offering a positive outlet for life struggles and self expression for which, she has been awarded 5 Massachusetts Cultural Council grants throughout underserved Central Massachusetts rural towns, including Worcester, MA. She currently lives in the North Quabbin area of Massachusetts with her boyfriend and their Papillon, Jerry.
